EMT Course Policies
Introduction:
Southern Region EMS Council strives to provide students with the highest quality of EMS instruction in the state. We do this by integrating didactic or book learning, with psychomotor or hands on skills. The policies contained herein are in place to provide for safe and effective learning for all students.
Course Requirements:
- Internet Connection
- Access to Google Classroom
- Required Text (will be supplied to you)
Attendance:
For each course, Alaska has set a minimum objectives list which must be completed prior to course completion, each course day will be filled with material as well as time to complete psychomotor skills. There is not time built into the schedule to make up for missing class. Therefore, punctual attendance is expected of each student. Any Student who fails to attend 80% of the course hours will not be eligible for State testing.
If you must miss class, it is up to you to contact your instructor as soon as practical to discuss alternate ways of meeting the course objectives.
Incomplete:
Incomplete grades are not typically granted, however in an emergency the instructor in consultation with the Education and Data Programs Coordinator can award an Incomplete provided that:
- The student has successfully completed 80% of the total course work
- The student has completed 90% of the course hours up to the emergent circumstance.
- The circumstances surrounding the need for the incomplete grade were unavoidable and unexpected.
- The instructor is confident that the student would have passed if the emergent circumstance did not occur.
- All incomplete assignments must be completed within 1 month of the course end date, or within such time as the EDPC allows
Course Documentation:
It is the responsibility of the student to provide any prerequisite documentation required for the class by the second class period. Ongoing course records such as skills portfolio sheets will be retained by the student until they are completed, at which point the instructor will upload them to the class file and to the Alaska as appropriate.
Administrative Withdrawal:
The student may be withdrawn from the course for violations of course policy.
Additionally, for classes with Prerequisites required by the state (EMT-1 Bridge, EMT-2, EMT-3, AK AEMT) Failure to turn in the required Prerequisite documentation by the second class period will result in a administrative withdrawal
Classroom Safety:
Practicing EMS skills exposes both the provider and the simulated patient to the potential for injury. Due to this strict safety protocols will be enforced. Students are expected to behave as professionals. Running, jumping, horseplay or any other acts which could injure staff or students will be subject to administrative withdrawal from class. Students are also required to be free of any intoxicants which may affect safety in the classroom.
Harassment:
Harassment of any student or faculty member will not be tolerated. EMS training will involve close contact with fellow students, be respectful of others at all times.
