The ACLS Provider Course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. Through didactic instruction and active participation in simulate cases, students will enhance their skills in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The goal of the ACLS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for adult patients with cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies through provider training.
With this course you will receive an ACLS Provider Manual.
Prior to taking this course the following must be met:
- You must have a current BLS Provider Card.
- Complete the pre-course checklist contained in your ACLS Provider Manual.
- Ensure that your BLS skills and knowledge are current for the resuscitation scenarios. You will be tested on adult high-quality BLS skills at the beginning of the ACLS Course. You must know this in advance because you will not be taught how to do CPR or use an AED.
- Review, understand, and complete the Pre-course Self-Assessment (mandatory) on the Student Website (see heart.org/eccstudent). The access code will be provided at the beginning of your ACLS Provider Manual. A passing score of 70% or above is required for the Pre-Course Self-Assessment. You can take the Pre-Course Self-Assessment as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.
What This Course Does Not Cover
The ACLS Provider Course does not teach you how to use an AED, do CPR, read or interpret ECGs, nor will you be taught details about pharmacology.
